Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody opines Shubman Gill’s knock in his side’s clash against CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on May 10, only reaffirms his status as one of the world-class players in the game of cricket. Having been sent to bat first after CSK winning the toss, Shubman’s 104 off 55 balls knock from the opening stand played a key role in his side’s ultimate and emphatic victory by 35 runs. Shubman and Sai Sudharsan shattered multiple IPL records with their 210-run partnership from the opening stand, where the latter played an equally important role with his 103 off 51 balls knock.

Speaking to Star Sports, Tom Moody explained how Shubman will gain some much-needed confidence from his match-defining knock against CSK.

“First and foremost, as the captain of the side, he’ll be over the moon with the win, that would be the foremost thing on his mind. Secondly, he’ll be thrilled about scoring a century for a couple of reasons. One, it signifies his significant contribution to the team’s success,” Moody said.

“Two, it reaffirms his status as a world-class player. He’s obviously gutted about not being part of India’s World Cup 15 that’s travelling to the Caribbean and the US. It has really had a massive impact on his contribution as a run-scorer in this year’s IPL.” Moody added.

Shubman has secured his place amongst the reserve kist of players for the T20 World Cup, alongside the likes of Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, Khaleed Ahmed.
