RCB head coach Andy Flower lauded his side’s star player Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis for their leadership behind the franchise’s revival in the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. RCB have found themselves with a daring chance of qualifying for the playoffs of the ongoing season of the competition, provided they are able to win all of their remaining matches in IPL 2024. Flower opines that both Virat and Faf have played a key role in bringing RCB back in contention for the play-offs, specifically because of the two leading from the very front.
RCB are all set to face off against DC in a must-win fixture on May 12 at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, and yet again, the majority of the focus will fall on the opening stand between du Plessis and Kohli. After defeating PBKS in their home fixture back on March 25, the Faf du Plessis-led side went on a 6-match losing streak that pinned them down to the bottom of the points table. However, RCB made an emphatic return to winning ways, starting with their win against in-form SRH on April 25. Since the SRH clash, RCB have clinched a four-match winning streak, which has only amped up the excitement around the DC clash on Sunday.
Speaking to RCB’s own media team, Flower went on to highlight the importance of Virat and du Plessis in the side’s run for the play-offs.
“Faf and Virat particularly have led from the front with their actions, and the rest of the team have been outstanding. I think we have seen an uptick in the way that we’ve bowled in the powerplay, and I think that’s been led by Siraj and Yash Dayal. Both have been very skilful and courageous with the new ball,” Flower said.
