Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a 4-wicket win over Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday to keep hopes of a second-place finish in the group stage of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League.
PBKS managed to post a target of 215 runs but, SRH successfully chased down the target with five wickets to spare.
PBKS opener Prabhsimran Singh’s 71 set the team up well and was aided by the efforts of Atharva Thaide and Rilee Rossouw, who made contributions of 46 and 49 runs respectively.
Abhishek Sharma top-scored for the hosts with his brilliant 66-run innings and was supplemented by a 42-run knock from South African Heinrich Klaasen and 37 runs off the bat of Nitish Kumar Reddy.
The side’s skipper Pat Cummins expressed his appreciation of the fans at their home ground, which has produced six wins for the side this season. He also expressed his delight with the camaraderie in the team.
“It’s pretty cool, it’s awesome. We have won 6 out of 7 here, it has been great and amazing,” the Australian began.
“I didn’t know many guys coming into this season, but we have played great cricket and had some fun. Great bunch of guys,” he continued.
The pacer went on to heap special praise on revelation Abhishek Sharma calling him a scary batter to bowl to. He also lauded Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has also come up big for the Hyderabad-based team this season.
“He is amazing. I wouldn’t want to bowl to him. It’s scary as he plays with freedom, not only against pacers but also against spinners,” he singled out the batter.
