Written by Rohit Pawar

Netherlands started their T20 World Cup 2024 warm-ups on an impressive note after beating Sri Lanka by 20 runs on Tuesday, May 28 at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida. Michael Levitt and Aryan Dutt were the stars as the Dutch came up trumps after dominating their opponents for most of the game.

As per the official website of Cricket Netherlands, Levitt scored 55 runs off 28 balls (retired) as the Netherlands put up a healthy score of 181 for 5 on the board. Teja Nidamaunuru played a handy knock of 27 in the middle overs. But it was skipper Scott Edwards’ unbeaten 12-ball knock of 27 that injected momentum into the Dutch innings.

Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka after he finished with figures of 4-0-39-2. Nuwan Thushara, Dunith Wellalage and Angelo Mathews accounted for a scalp apiece. Dasun Shanaka, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis went wicketless.

Sri Lanka stuttered in their run-chase and were bowled out for 161 in 18.5 overs. After being reduced to 30 for 4 in the powerplay, the Islanders could never get a foothold back in the game. Dhananjaya and Dasun Shanaka scored 31 and 35 not out respectively.

Hasaranga threw his bat around to notch 43 runs off 15 balls with 5 consecutive sixes, but his knock wasn’t enough for Sri Lanka to win. Right-arm spinner Aryan Dutt was the standout bowler for the Dutch after he picked up 3 wickets. Kyle Klein and Logan van Beek were also impressive with 2 and 1 wickets respectively.

The Netherlands will play their second warm-up match on Thursday, May 30 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
