Hours after watching the T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Pakistan from the New York stadium on Sunday, Mumbai Cricket Association president Amol Kale died due to cardiac arrest. Amol Kale’s passing away has sent huge shockwaves in the cricket community, with quite a few expressing their shock along with a message of condolence.
Amol Kale watched the India vs Pakistan match at the Nassau County Cricket Ground along with Mumbai cricket board secretary Ajinkya Naik and another office bearer on Sunday.
Amol Kale, 47, became the Mumbai Cricket Association president in 2022. He defeated World Cup-winning former cricketer Sandip Patil in the MCA elections to become the president of the powerful cricket body in the country.
Kale was known as a close aide of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Apart from his work in cricket, Kale, who was from Nagpur, was a first-generation businessman who settled in Mumbai for over a decade.
Kale was instrumental in doubling the match fee of the senior domestic cricketers in Mumbai for the upcoming 2024-25 season, following the BCCI’s decision to double the match fees of domestic players. Kale has often spoken about the need to promote red-ball cricket. Notably, the MCA, earlier this year, announced a prize money of Rs 5 crore to the victorious Ranji Trophy team from the 2023-24 season.
