Former Captain and chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya has been named Sri Lanka Intrim Head Coach until the England series, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.

The development comes on the heels of head coach Chris Silverhood and consultant (part time) Mahela Jayawardene’s resignation from their respective posts following an underwhelming T20 World Cup campaign in USA and West Indies, where Wanindu Hasaranga led team failed to advance in Super 8 stage.

Jayasuriya, one of the all time great of the game, was himself serving the national team as Consultant (full time).

Under Jayasuriya’s wings, Sri Lanka’s next assignment is a white ball home series against India, who were just crowned T20 World Cup champions. India’s tour of Sri Lanka consists of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. With Gautam Gambhir is certain to take over as team India new coach from Sri Lanka series and legends like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from the shortest format, many fringe players are expected to make a cut in the new looking T20 squad, while for ODIs, a full strength team is expected to pick.

Then, In August, Sri Lanka are scheduled to travel England for a three match test series.

Jayasuriya, who is known for on field discipline and rigorous training, is expected to bring a new culture in the team!
