Rishabh Pant attacks more than me: Adam Gilchrist praises India wicketkeeper

Written by Vishwas Gupta

Legendary Australia wicketkeeper batter Adam Gilchrist has showered massive praise on Rishabh Pant saying he attacks more than he did in his career. Notably, Pant has been often compared with Gilchrist due to his aggressive style of play in Test cricket.

The southpaw recently made a comeback to the Test team in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The youngster scored 39 (52) on his return to the format as he stabilized the innings after India lost three wickets early. Commenting on Pant’s batting style, Gilchrist called him a ‘class act’ for his ability to absorb pressure.

“I reckon he attacks a bit more than I did. I played an aggressive brand at that time, but Rishabh, he looks fearless. What I do like is that he occasionally puts a foot on the brake and absorbs a bit of pressure. So he’s a class act,” Gilchrist said on Cricket.com.

Further speaking ahead, the Australian legend hailed him for entertaining the crowd in Test cricket and said that he would happily pay money to watch him bat.

“He is, what you say, bums on seats and people pay money well and truly. I would happily pay money to watch him play cricket. So that’s a great quality to have, I think, if people are acknowledging in that manner because he gets the results, he’s a winner and a survivor, as we know. He’s all class in everything he does. He’s good fun, he’s got the humour. He knows how to go about a very serious business in a fun way,” he added.

Pant has scored 2322 runs from 34 matches in his career so far at an average of 43.81 and a strike rate of 73.73 with five hundreds and 11 fifties. The southpaw scored centuries on his first tour of England, Australia and South Africa.
