India completed a record-extending 18th straight series win at home beating Bangladesh in the second Test at Green Park, Kanpur to wrap the series 2-0, solidifying their top spot in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
Despite losing two days to rain, India managed to force a result on the back of some stunning assault with the bat on Day 4 and followed it up with a clinical performance with the ball on the final day, bundling out Bangladesh for a mere 146 in the first session. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets each with Akash Deep claiming a solitary wicket as Bangladesh’s innings folded in 47 overs.
After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh were 107/3 on a rain-curtailed Day 1, but when play resumed on Day 4, the visitors were skittled out for 233. Another complete bowling performance saw Bumrah pick three wickets, while Mohammad Siraj, Ashwin, and Akash Deep picked two wickets each and Jadeja added one to his kitty, to complete 300 Test wickets.
India then took the game by the scruff of its neck with a stunning assault that saw the team register the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 team scores. The Indian batting line-up rag-dolled Bangladesh bowlers with Jasiwal ransacking 72 off just 51 deliveries, while Rohit Sharma made 23 off 11. Shubman Gill added 36 off 33 while Kohli made 47 off 38. KL Rahul added the finishing touches with 68 off 43 as they declared their innings at 285/9 in just 34.4 overs.
And after wrapping up Bangladesh in no time, India cantered home running down the target of 95 in just 17.2 overs with seven wickets in hand. Jaiswal top-scored with 51.
India have not lost a series at home since 2012-13, when Alastair Cook’s England defeated MS Dhoni’s and Co. on home soil.
