Sri Lankan batsman Kamindu Mendis moved up five places to 11th after scoring a century in his team’s Test series against New Zealand, reaching a new career-high rating.

His 182 not out against New Zealand last week was his fifth century to go with four half-centuries. He currently has a video game-like Test batting average of 91.27. To put those numbers in context, by reaching the 1,000-run mark in just his 13th innings, Mendis is currently operating at the same pace as the legendary Donald Bradman. Only Herbert Sutcliffe and Everton Weekes achieved the feat in fewer innings (12). Sri Lanka’s previous quickest batter to the 1,000-run mark was Roy Dias, who reached the milestone in 23 innings.

Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal (up six places to 20th) and Angelo Mathews (up four spots to 23rd) also made strides in the rankings, while Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan jumped two places to fifth in the Test all-rounder rankings.

India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has continued his fine run in Test cricket as the southpaw broke into the top 3 after his stunning performances in the Kanpur Test on October 2, Wednesday. Jaiswal, who was in the 5th spot after the first Test in Chennai, leapfrogged Steve Smith to move into his new career-best ranking.

The opener was named Player of the Match in the rain-affected Test against Bangladesh, where his knocks of 72 and 51 saw him achieve a new career-high in the Test batter rankings. Jaiswal climbed two spots to secure third place, with only England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson ranking higher than him in the latest Test standings.

Jaiswal currently has 792 rating points, the highest for an Indian in the rankings so far. Root leads the list with 899 points, while Williamson has 829. Virat Kohli, in 6th spot, is the second-best ranked Indian in the rankings at the moment. Rishabh Pant in 9th, is the only other Indian in the top 10.

Rohit Sharma slipped out of the top 10 and is currently in 15th spot after moving down 5 places, while Shubman Gill is in the 16th spot.

Jaiswal has been in stellar form for India in 2024. The opener has scored 929 runs in 8 Tests so far with an average of 66.35. Jaiswal would talk about his knocks in Kanpur and said he is always trying his best for the team and every innings is important for him.
