Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka is not worried after his team lost the opening T20I against West Indies at Dambulla on Sunday.
The visitors won the match by five wickets with Brandon King (63) and Evin Lewis (50) notching half-centuries in an opening partnership of 107 to set up the win.
West Indies hammered 74 off the opening six overs and Asalanka agreed his team could have done better to control the rampant King and Lewis.
“In my point of view, it’s more good shots than bad bowling. I should give credit to their batters first of all. But I think we could have done a bit better in the powerplay,” he said after the match.
Sri Lanka opened with Chamindu Wickramasinge, bowling in only his second match, only for Lewis to smash a six and a four off the last two balls of the over.
Wickramasinghe ended with o for 27 off his two overs and Asalanka said he may change his strategy in the next two matches.
“I’m still experimenting. I just wanted to bowl a few overs from Chamindu because he’s an all-rounder and a part-time bowler for me. But it didn’t work for this match. Might start with Maheesh (Theenshana) in the next matches,” he said.
The Sri Lankan skipper said his team is playing well and will tighten up on a few areas in their game.
“The plus point is that we’re playing good cricket. We have to improve a few areas, including our powerplay bowling, that’s the main concern as captain. We’ll have a chat and do better in the next games,” Asalanka said.
The second T20I is on Tuesday.
