Adam Gilchrist has backed struggling Marnus Labuschagne to regain form amidst a poor run with the bat. Labuschagne, who has been a mainstay for Australia at No.3, has found runs hard to come by this year in Tests. In 6 matches so far, the Aussie batter has scored just 245 runs at an average of 24.5.
In the Perth Test, Labuschagne scored 2 off 52 balls and then 3 in the second innings to continue his barren run. This has raised questions about the batter’s spot in the team, but he has received support from captain Pat Cummins and others. Gilchrist, while talking to Nine’s Wide World of Sports, said that Labuschagne needs to be reminded that he is a class act and the batter has got the game to tolerate and withstand everything that has been thrown at him.
“I’m sure the people around him are already doing this but he needs to be reminded that he is a class act,” Gilchrist said of Labuschagne.
“He’s got a game that has been able to tolerate and withstand everything that the cricketing world has presented, and he’s dominated for a number of years.”
Gilchrist said that for Labuschagne it’s all about not letting any self-doubt creep in and understanding that he has still got the skills.
“Most players that have played long enough will have been in this situation at some point in time and it’s about not letting any self-doubt creep in and understanding you don’t lose that skill — you don’t lose that edge — (and) certainly not in a short space of time.”
“Trust your training, get out there, see the ball and play it.”
