Australia have reportedly suffered an injury scare after Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne got hit while bating at the nets ahead of the second Test against India in Adelaide.
Australia’s injury worries deepened ahead of the second Test against India after Steve Smith reportedly got struck on his finger while batting at the nets. According to a report in Times Now, Smith sustained the injury while receiving a throwdown from Marnus Labuschagne, who also sustained an injury while facing a “rising” delivery from Daniel Vettori, Australia’s assistant coach.
While Labuschagne continued batting despite the injury, Smith received treatment from the Australian team physio and took a break from batting, before resuming shortly after. The report adds that Smith and Labuschagne will still play the second Test in Adelaide despite the injury setback.
Australia , who lost the first Test to India in Perth, will miss pacer Josh Hazlewood for the second Test after sustaining a side strain injury. The hosts have called up uncapped pacers Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett. The squad also features right-arm medium pacer Scott Boland.
All-rounder Mitchell Marsh, meanwhile, had complained of soreness in the ankle and uncapped all-rounder Beau Webster has been called up as cover for Marsh.
