Jasprit Bumrah created history on Wednesday (December 18) by becoming India’s most successful Test bowler in Australia. Bumrah broke Kapil Dev’s record of 51 wickets during the second session of the fifth day’s play of the ongoing third Test at the Gabba. Bumrah opened his wicket account in the second innings, first by removing Usman Khawaja (8) and then in the next over got rid of Marnus Labuschagne.

While Khawaja was clean bowled by the legendary Indian pacer, Labuschagne was caught behind by Rishabh Pant.

Bumrah has 52 wickets to his name in 10 Tests played so far in Australia, whereas Kapil Dev finished his career with 51 wickets in 11 Tests played on Australian soil.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon sits at the No. 1 position in the list of bowlers who have picked up the most wickets in Test matches played between India and Australia in Australia. In 18 Tests played so far between the two teams in Australia, Lyon has 63 wickets to his name.

Bumrah, who sits at No. 1 position in the ICC Test bowler’s ranking, dismissed six Aussie batters for 76 runs in the first innings of the Brisbane Test. By taking his sixth wicket of the match on Monday, Bumrah broke star Indian pacer Ishant Sharma’s record of 130 wickets to become India’s most successful fast bowler in Test matches played in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries.

Ishant, who last played a Test match for India in 2021, has 130 wickets to his name in 41 matches played in SENA countries. He dismissed 31 batters in 13 Tests played in Australia and 51 batters in 15 matches played on English soil. In six and seven Tests played in New Zealand and South Africa, Ishant accounted for the dismissal of 28 and 20 batters, respectively.
