Two resolutions, which were brought by a certain group with hidden agendas, were unanimously defeated at Sinhalese Sports Club’s (SSC) Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Monday, Cricket Age exclusively learns.

The first resolution, which was brought by a certain group led by a former Sri Lanka player and former club secretary R J De Silva, was related to setting a time limit for the club’s elected office-bearers. For a large part of SSC’s 150 years history, head of the stated used to be the president of the club as well. Thus, in last one and half century, SSC had only 9 presidents.

The certain group brought resolution against it, by proposing two terms of 3 years. Interestingly, R J De Silva, who himself served SSC as secretary for 8 years, was advocating for maximum 6 years term in total. However, ExCo dismissed this, stating that it will derail the progress of the club.

Second resolution was related to minimum spend limit for the club membership. Cricket Age understands the said group had objected over minimum spend limit, citing that many members can’t afford the annual amount.

However, at the EGM, majority of club stakeholders voiced against it, while stating that some of the members don’t spend at all. According to sources, while dismissing the said resolution, it was decided to table a quarterly payment structure for an annual spend limit of 29 thousand at the next ExCo.
