Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Incumbent president Shammi Silva has filed his nomination for the top post for a record fourth time, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM), for electing the office bearers at Maitland Place for the next two years term, is scheduled In May, nomination date for which ended last week.
From the opposition, former SLC vice president K. Mathivanan led camp had put the objections over the time limit of five days for the nomination. Cricket Age understands that the the Election Committee, however, has rejected the objection, on the ground that the given time was as per rules.
In December last year, Silva took over as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), succeeding India’s Jay Shah, who recently became the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah had vacated the position after three terms as ACC President. Silva’s, who is considered a close ally of Shah, tenure began at a pivotal time, with the ACC focusing on the upcoming Asia Cup and striving to strengthen Asia’s position as a powerhouse in global cricket.
