Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has made a bold claim that Afghanistan star spinner Rashid Khan is a greater cricketer than legendary pacer Wasim Akram. Rashid has been a revelation since making his breakthrough in international cricket in 2015. Since then, the 26-year-old has picked up 45 wickets in Tests and 198 in ODIs and 161 in T20Is.

Rashid has become a legend in the T20 format as he has a total of 633 wickets in the format, making him the highest wicket-taker in the history of the format. Speaking on Geo News, Latif claimed that Rashid put the Afghanistan cricket team on the map and helped them gain recognition. The former wicketkeeper said that Rashid’s stature is bigger than Akram.

“Rashid has brought Afghanistan on the map, he has helped them get recognition,” Rashid Latif said Hasna Mana Hai, a talk show on Geo News.

“He is greater than Wasim Akram.”

“I am sorry to say but Rashid’s stature is bigger,” he said.

Latif also had some advice for Rashid and told him to help improve Afghanistan’s Test team so that they can play against Pakistan in the longest format of the game.

“I have only one piece of advice for Rashid Khan. ‘Improve your test team and play more Test matches against Pakistan,’” said Latif.

Akram, on the other hand, is a legend of the game and picked up 414 wickets in 104 Tests and 502 wickets in 356 ODIs.
