“Has capability to defeat anyone”: Ganguly hails Team India after win over New Zealand

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly believes that India is a side capable of beating any opponent in the Champions Trophy, especially after their commanding win over New Zealand on March 2. With this victory, India finished at the top of Group A, securing a semi-final clash against Australia.

India maintained their unbeaten streak in the tournament with a 44-run win over New Zealand, led by a sensational five-wicket haul from spin maestro Varun Chakravarthy. This win further solidifies their status as title favourites, having already defeated Bangladesh and arch-rivals Pakistan in the group stage. Speaking to ANI, Ganguly praised India’s squad depth and dominant performances, highlighting their ability to overcome any challenge in the competition.

“India won the last T20 World Cup (in 2024) and played in the final (of 50-over in 2023). It is a very strong team in white-ball cricket, no matter who is on the opposite side. It has the capability to defeat anyone,” Ganguly said.

India posted a competitive total of 249 against New Zealand, with their batters playing spin exceptionally well. Of those 249 runs, 124 came against New Zealand’s spinners in 25 overs for the loss of just two wickets, showcasing India’s adaptability in tough conditions. Their bowlers then put in a disciplined performance to successfully defend the total, with spinners leading the charge.
