‘Have Not Heard From Him’: Gavaskar Questions Gambhir Over Champions Trophy Prize Money

Written by Toshi Pawar

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has pointed out how Rahul Dravid decided not to take more prize money than his fellow support staff after the T20 World Cup win, wondering if Gautam Gambhir has done the same after BCCI announced a huge sum for the winning team and support staff after the Champions Trophy.

Gavaskar asked whether Gambhir would follow his predecessor, Dravid, in refusing to take more than the other members of the support staff.

How much prize money is being given to Gambhir and the rest of the support staff is unknown.

“After the ICC T20 World Cup win and the Board announcement of prize money, the then-coach Rahul Dravid, ever the team man, refused to accept more than his fellow members of the coaching staff and shared it equally with his colleagues,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

“It’s been a fortnight since the BCCI announced the Champions Trophy rewards, but we haven’t heard anything from the current coach on whether he will also do a Dravid. Or is it that Dravid, in this instance, is not a good role model?” Gavaskar asked.
