Shreyas Iyer To Get Back His BCCI Central Contract After BCCI’s March 29 Meeting

India ODI star and Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer is all set to earn back his Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) central contract for the 2024-25 cycle. According to a report in The Times of India, the board will announce the new list of men’s contracts ‘sometime this week’ after a meeting between BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Guwahati on March 29.

Shreyas and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Ishan Kishan lost their central contracts last year. The Board was said to have been miffed at them when they failed to feature in domestic matches for Mumbai and Jharkhand, respectively, while away from the national team.

Kishan’s case is likely to be more tricky because the BCCI requires men’s players to play either three Tests, eight ODIs, or 10 T20Is during a calendar year to be considered for the next season’s central contracts. Kishan hasn’t played any international cricket since late 2023.

“Shreyas is set to regain his contract, and it will be in a top category. However, discussions are still ongoing on whether in Ishan’s case,” the report cited a source as saying.
