MS Dhoni Should Have Retired After IPL 2023: Manoj Tiwary

Written by Sumit Seth

Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has said that MS Dhoni should have retired after winning IPL 2023 while leading the Chennai Super Kings, and currently, he is losing respect by not being able to chase down targets after the five-time champions slumped to their third successive defeat in IPL 2025 on Saturday, April 5.

Dhoni, who continues to be a crucial player in the Chennai lineup, hasn’t been able to make an impact in IPL 2025, with CSK struggling in the league.

In the four games till now, Dhoni has had 76 runs, but fans and experts have questioned his batting position.

Against the Delhi Capitals, Dhoni came in to bat at his usual number 7 position when 110 runs were needed off 9.2 overs.

“I think the right time for him to retire was in 2023, when he won the IPL trophy. He should have retired then. Somewhere, I feel that all the fame, name, and respect he earned from cricket, it’s kind of slipping away in the last two years with the way he’s been playing,” Tiwary said while speaking on Cricbuzz.
