Glenn Maxwell has had his run in IPL 2025: Doull wants PBKS to bench all-rounder

Former cricketer Simon Doull feels that woefully out-of-form Glenn Maxwell should be benched from the Punjab Kings line-up in their match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Maxwell has not been able to perform with the bat at all, registering 34 runs from 5 matches. Maxwell’s bowling has not been able to create a big enough impact.

Speaking on Cricbuzz ahead of Tuesday’s game, Doull said that it was high time that Punjab Kings tried out other batters like Azmatullah Omarzai and Josh Inglis in place of the Australian all-rounder. Maxwell has fallen to reckless dismissals this season and has not played any match-winning innings so far.

“I think Maxwell has had his run. I mean, just the way he’s getting out at the moment, it would frustrate me as a coach. That’s the disappointing thing, I think, from their point of view. So Omarzai’s in for him, Inglis in for him, would be something I’d probably look at,” Simon Doull said ahead of the game.

However, the bigger worry for Punjab is perhaps in their bowling line-up, with Lockie Ferguson being ruled out of the season. Ferguson’s injury in his very first over against SunRisers Hyderabad created a massive dent in PBKS’ bowling attack. Despite scoring 245 runs in Hyderabad, they were not able to defend the target.

Punjab have the likes of Kuldeep Sen to replace Lockie and would have to take a brave call about that on Tuesday.
