The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a legal notice to The Grade Cricketer, an Australian podcast hosted by Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, over the unauthorized use of IPL 2025 logos and images in their videos. The BCCI objected to the use of IPL logos and still photographs in the podcast’s content, classifying their usage as “commercial” rather than “editorial” because the videos were sponsored by an Indian grocery platform and included branded elements.
Hundreds of videos covering IPL 2025, including their daily show The Big IPL Breakfast, were taken down. The show may need to rebrand to avoid further legal issues.
Perry called the BCCI’s letter “very polite” and clarified that the removal was preventive, not forced. They plan to continue IPL coverage without infringing content and will visit India for live shows.
“You may have noticed that every single video from our coverage of this year’s big cricket tournament has been removed from YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, Instagram, and X. This is something we’ve done ourselves; it hasn’t been done to us. We have removed these videos,” said Perry in his latest YouTube video.
