Thilanga Sumathipala, the president of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has almost forgotten the Maitland place and seldom come to the office since last one month mainly due to upcoming Local election, Cricket Age learns.
There are local election in Sri Lanka on December 10. According to sources, Sumathipala, being a close associate of Country’s president Maithripala Sirisena, doing all the campaign for him. Thus, according to sources, he hardly comes to the SLC headquarter since almost one month.
“He has been doing all the election campaign from his residence at Borella and his focus is on the election” a source close to Sumathipala, told Cricket Age.
“Even the last MCC meeting on January 7 held at his residence in Borella” the source added further.
Last time Sumathipala took time off from his election campaign on Monday, when he attended SLC Media co-ordinator Dinesh Ratnasigham wedding. According to sources, Sumathipala came at church and signed as witness.
According to sources, Sumathipala’s own future as SLC President depends on the outcome of the election. If Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe party UNP emerges as number one, Sumathipala game will be officially over.
In current scenario too, Maithripala party seems to be moving down to 3rd position. According to sources, UNP and PjP between 30 -40 %, while Maithree group 10-15.%, if consider total votes.
It has also learnt that, In the absence of Sumathipala, K. Mathivanan, the Vice president, is overseeing all the matters. However, the funny thing is, currently Mathivanan is also on overseas tour!
