Legendary off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, first cricketer from Sri Lanka to be voted into the ICC Hall if Fame, will be formally inducted during the Champions trophy in June, Sri Lanka cricket board announced today.
“Muralitharan has been one of the great of modern era. His guile and consistency over the year helped Sri Lanka develop as a very competitive side in both test and ODI cricket” said ICC Chief executive David Richardson.
Muralitharan, the leading wicket taker in test and ODI cricket, has been regarded as the greatest bowler of the world cricket. He was one of the pioneer of Sri Lanka triumph in 1996 world cup and his unbelievable success in the test cricket saw his country’s growth in the longer format as well.
In his illustrious career, he took 800 test wicket and 534 ODI wickets. Even after retirement, Murali is very much involved in the game, and has been associated with IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad as a spin bowling coach.
