While entire Cricketing World is ridiculing Ball tampering incident by Australian team during the third test against South Africa, Sri Lanka spin allrounder Sachith Pathirana has come up with a rather unexpected quote.
Pathirana, who played 18 ODIs and 5 T20Is for Sri Lanka, admitted that Ball tampering exist at every level in Cricket and no bowler in the world can say that he didn’t try to tamper the ball.
“Any 1st Class player, who hasn’t tried to temper the ball for ur fast bowlers to reverse, plz comment on this. Bitter truth is we have done it, but not with the sand paper, but from various other ways. Let it go guys…!” he wrote on his Facebook Page.
“No one in this world can naturally reverse the ball, every good fast bowler will know that the fielders have to make it up to them, but sand paper is not acceptable” He further Wrote.
Sachith is the son of Janaka Pathirana, who is considered to be very close to Sri Lanka Cricket board (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala.
Earlier on Wednesday, Australian captain Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for one-year by Cricket Australia following the ball-tampering scandal during the Cape Town Test against South Africa. Cameron Bancroft, the player caught on camera attempting to doctor the ball with a piece of tape, was also handed a nine-month ban. Smith and Warner have already stepped down from their IPL captaincy roles.
Cricket Australia Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland met the players at their hotel in Johannesburg’s Sandton district to tell them their fate before they flew back to Australia.
“As the Chairman has noted, the sanctions we have announced are significant for the individuals involved. That is why the process has had to be thorough to ensure that all relevant issues have been examined,” Sutherland said.
Legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara also supported Cricket Australia move to ban Smith and Warner.
